2010 Dave Seguin Racing Season Re-cap

.

May 16th- 2nd in heat and18th in feature-

.

Started off the night with a good 2nd place run just finishing behind Marc Pilon. The feature didn’t go as planned  a couple laps in we had the master cylinder fail and we hit the wall almost full speed with no brakes. Twisting the frame and braking suspension parts. During the week all necessary  parts were ordered and we got to work. Some nights we worked all night   long body aching hours to get this car  rebuilt and in racing condition for Sunday night’s event.

.

May 23rd- 7th in heat 22nd in feature-

.

With the long hours put in last week we just made Sunday’s 6:30 deadline and had the car at the track in almost racing condition. Time ran out for setting up the car’s suspension and the hood was not on car because there was just no time for installing hood pins. Exhausted and aching from the week prior we were at least there. With areas overlooked we ended up having a short in the wiring harness that blew the computers fuse in the heat and feature causing the car to shut down and coming to a rolling stop. Disappointed was the least to say after all the hard work but determination at least got us some points on the night. Quiting is not an option for team 7x we are determined to succeed.

.

May 30th- 6th in heat 7th in feature-

.

We have found and located the short with some searching in the wiring harness. One of the wires for a sensor was grounding on the block and causing the short. Fixed up again and ready to roll out. Getting a 6th in the heat and 7th in the feature we where pleased with the results the car did not handle good in the corners and we needed to focus more on setups. In next couple weeks we would be trying out different combinations.

.

June 13th- 4th in the heat 14th in feature-

.

With a different setup in mind we decided to give a shot. The heat came and got a 4th place finish, again we were satisfied but no where near where it should be. In the feature we were running strong at the front of the pack. The 31 car got into the side of the 7x and caused a wreck breaking the right front suspension and ending our night.

.

June 20th- 1st in heat 9th in feature-

.

Again with a different setup we hit this one right on the nose. Pulling off a 1st place finish in the heat battling the whole way with the prelude of Marc Usereau. We ran the high line and he ran low battling neck to neck. At the end the nissan came though and clinching the top spot at the checkers. In the feature things seemed to go our way at the beginning leading most laps then a deflating tire eventually ended the thought of checkers for the second time in the night.

June 27th- 4th in heat 11th in feature-

.

This was the heat we had the fastest run pretty much the whole season getting a commanding lead over everybody in the heat. Getting as much as half a straight away over the second place position. This race I’ll admit was very throttle happy and jumped on it a little to quick coming out of turn 4 on the second last lap. I got a bit to high in the straight away hit the marbles and spun out. Finishing the heat 4th after passing 2 cars on the restart. In the feature car was running great at the start battling with the top runners at the front. Heat temps rose way above normal and the engine began to lose power towards the the end. Falling back to the 11th spot at the checkers. This problem would then haunt us every feature for the rest of the season.

.

July 11th- 2nd in heat DNS in feature-

.

This heat was another exciting heat battle with the prelude of Dan Desnoyers and the integra of Martin Bernard. We were all pretty close at the beginning running our cars hard. Eventually the battle would end up between the integra and the nissan, pulling away from the rest of the field. The integra just had the advantage at the checkers with the nissan right on his bumper. Right after the feature I pulled into the pits and noticed a big coolant leak. I checked it out and noticed the main rad hose that goes into the left side of the head blew. This problem would end this event getting a DNS on the feature.

.

July 18th- 1st in heat 3rd in feature-

.

..

This race would be our best performance of the year leading the entire heat race. The fast prelude of Marc Chatrand was in second eventually making up some ground at the end finishing neck and neck. Pretty much a photo finish ending with the nissan inching ahead at the checkered flag for the 1st place finish. The car felt very good setup was almost perfect we were ready to give her hell for the feature. The feature started off great leading pretty much the whole way. Those high temps would eventually haunt us again losing power at the end. The track champion car of Ronnie Tyo and the integra of Martin Bernard would eventually get by us for a 3rd place finish.

.

July 25th- 6th in heat 9th in feature-

.

This event track conditions were horrible to say the least with all the rain. Car was handling ok on these wet conditions. We were in the fight for 2nd place against the 89 of Matthew Aubin. He was running high we were running low when a tie rod snapped and rammed the 89 of the track and damaging the nissan’s suspension. The tow truck would then bring us to our pit area. We were determined not to let the night end like this. We borrowed a welder from a fellow race team and welded the tie rod together, and also fix a bolt on the lower control arm. We made it out for the feature for a 9th place finish.

.

Aug 1st- 1st in heat 6th in feature-

.
Heat Win
..

This heat win would be the fourth on the year including the one in Brockville. The Nissan would perform great in the heats because of the tacky track. The rear wheel drive would hook up well and the setup was perfect for these track conditons. Also the engine would not have time to overheat like in the features with that engine problem we have been having. We tried everything to keep this thing cool and just would not. We believe the problem is internally like a crack in the block or something like rodent crawled in there when the hoses were expose in the shop. This problem will be investigated this winter by tearing apart the block and finding out what is going on in there. I do not have the rest of the stats on the season because the speedway website was never updated with the results.

.

Finished season 9th overall-

.

We are not very pleased with the 9th place overall results all though its still a top 10 finish. Problems over the season cost us big time in points. 2011 we are racing for track champion. In order to do this we need to stay consistent week in and week out. Have the car perform its best every weekend. Keep logs and records on what works best setup wise and conditions of track. Inspect car every race to locate possible problem areas. Lots of spare parts will be on hand at track in case of a accident we could still make it out to finish the night. Many changes are on the way for 2011 to improve every possible area of the car and team. A new engine will also be installed along with a new suspension for best performance. We will be more than ready to hit 2011 with a bang!!
