Wow, seems like forever since I’ve updated here, and sorry about that. There has been so much going on this year, so many changes that I admit, got distracted and slightly stepped off my blog updating duties.

The holidays are nice and quiet, so now while watching the Canadian Junior team play against Russia, I thought it’d be – (we just scored)..a great time to let you all know what is going on around the WR/CS camp.

Before I get started, I wanna thank everyone for your emails, texts and calls…I’m glad to see that people care and notice when I’m not updating. I appreciate that and am proud to be part of the race scene here in Canada.

(We just scored again…2-0 Canada)

Let me start with a quick overview from this summer and what went on.

Dave Seguin Racing – Team 7x

Well, what can I say, the most dedicated and persistent team that I’ve ever worked with did it. After weeks’n’weeks of racing, Sunday after Sunday on the track, travelling between tracks and dealing with some of the best competition DIRT Pro-Stock has ever seen, they secured the Cornwall Motor Speedway Rookie of the Year and also the coveted DIRT Series Rookie of the Year.

This is an accomplishment of many folds. What they had to over come in order to get these titles is really something else. Especially the week before the final race.

Being just short in points going into the final, with a broken and busted car, I borrowed some talent from one of my boys in our GITN crew and dragged Hugh out to Cornwall to help Dave get the car back together with maybe 12 hours to spare before he had to leave.

After bolting a body on, banging out some dents, scaling the car and gettin it right, we sent Dave and the team on their way to conquer all that is Dirt. And he did.

Once again, I can’t express how proud I am of this team. Dave and his family, are ambassadors of the sport and us here at the Woods Racing / Canada Synthetics camp will be proud to once again support him in 2013. He just keeps getting better and better, and we’re smart enough to know when to climb aboard a gravy train.

Gold In the Net Drift Team

After our Indy trip..which was absolutely amazing, we pretty much got right to work prepping for our Formula Drift premier which was supposed to start in Atlanta. Unfortunately, it wasn’t in the cards for us. With some heavy mechanical issues with the truck and what not, we decided to delay it to 2013, which in hindsight, is really the proper move. We took the opportunity to go to some FD events, Clubloose events and generally get better. Dial the car in and work as a team in a prep environment.

When the Slide event came around, we we’re pretty confident. Randy, Hugh and I prepped the car, got it loaded and headed to the track. Circumstance however got the better of us, with a blown clutch during first practice, this ended our day early..but we did learn a lot. Most importantly, that day cemented the fact that I chose the best team in Drift. Although we were unable to compete, we did everything we could. Randy and Hugh were aces that day and I can’t thank them enough.

We’ll see what 2013 brings us in the land of Drift, and I can’t wait to get started. We got some cool things lined up, but you’ll have to wait for an official press release first…SORRY FOLKS!

Some of the most fun I had this year on track though, was with my buddy Louis and the #36 Mustang over at ICAR.

This…non intense, non-competitive racing is a nice break from the craziness of Drift. I could spend allllll day at the track with Louis and the car, we have a ton of fun, not to mention that the car is set up so well…that all I really have to do is keep Louis gripping with air pressure adjustments. Although we couldn’t spend as much time on track as we wanted, it was surely memorable when we did. We have a blast together and that always reminds me what racing is really about. Having fun.

It’s easy to get sucked into the competitive and business side of racing, and of course, we also have to. Having an outlet within racing to relax and enjoy is something I encourage every racer to do. Although being in racing can be a dream job, it can have its stress points also.

I thank Louis and the Technika team for including me this year. It’s fun stuff.

So with all that being said, I am still on track and involved. There are some updates to the shop and the company that I need to tell ya about, but that will be another full post at another time.

So until then, I wish you all the best for 2013, and be sure to look out for us at various tracks and shows across Ontario, Quebec and the NE USA. Woods Racing is active, and can’t wait to see you guys.

Cheers!

Well…seems like I haven’t blogged here in forever! I guess you could say that is true, but truly, it’s not my fault! There has just been so much going on around here that it’s hard to find the time!
.
I got me a few minutes here, so let me catch you up to speed…

The 2012 Indianapolis 500
.
The end of May brought me once again to Indianapolis to witness yet another incredible Indy 500 full of crashes, takeovers and surprises. When they say it’s the Greatest Race in The World…these folks are not lying.
.
We started our 1500km trek to Indianapolis right, by loading up our crew truck with all kinds of goodies..(read: Cameras, Cameras and memory cards…and a couple more cameras) and headed off down highway 20. In tow inside was my Dad, my brother and myself. Now this is a feat all on its own what with our schedules matching and all. It’s been a long time since we traveled together and I couldn’t have asked for better company. With my brother claiming shotgun for the first leg by way of a coin toss, I settled in the unnaturally comfortable rear seat and got to work prepping my GoPro and Sony gear.
.

.
Thankfully, the first section to Detroit went unscathed and was fairly easy…seems every year I seem to clip a Tornado somewhere along the route (actually, 5 years in a row) so it was nice to see the clear skies for the first 11 hour drive. The only hang up was a long wait at the Blue Water Bridge which put us right into Detroit rush hour going into our overnight pit-stop in Pontiac Michigan.
.

.
Once we finally stopped the truck, as always we were treated like royalty by our cousins and family there…big steaks, few beers and a whole lotta laughs. And well, I won’t lie…my brother and I did end up visiting the local tavern…ok, taverns which caused somewhat of a rough start to our final 5 hour leg down to Indy. In fact…it was a pretty silent trip rollin’ through the corn fields of Indiana.
.
By the time we got to Indy though, a quick shower and a taste of the hair of the dog we we’re set to take on the world once again. We got our credentials out of the way and met up with my sister and some friends down at the BoatHouse and had a nice settling in time…but of course, as always, Bec had tons of stuff lined up for us the next day and the few to follow.
.
Day 1 was early…we hit the track in time for a walk around the pits and caught the Indy Lights race. These younger guys sure know how to rock an IL car…great show. We also got to go down pitside and watch the Pit Stop competition…which is super cool..these teams are so good, so fast and so organized it makes any mechanic sit in awe.
.

.

.
Afterwards, we were set up to have a meet and greet with Charlie Kimball. It’s a really personal connection for us since Charlie is a Diabetic and as is my oldest Niece and Godchild Cassidy. And not to mention he looks almost identical to my Cousin Jason…it’s almost spooky really.
.
He took the time and explained to us how he deals with his blood sugar levels, juice/water mixes in the car, how his team monitors every side of the car…and driver through live data and can make decisions accordingly on the go. The advancements that his team has brought to motor racing really is truly unbelievable.
.

.
Now that all the fancy stuff was wrapped up…in great celebration of Carb Day, we joined some friends and soaked in all that was Indy weekend. Lynard Skynard was playing on the stage, there was people everywhere and it was all a great time. But, we did have to get back and get cleaned up for the party at the Dreyer Reinbold race shop who were generous hosts. It was a cool event where we got to meet some great people like fellow Canadian Scott Goodyear who took some time to chat with us Canucks. It’s always impressive to see these shops behind the scenes. Mind you, this one was all done up for the party, but really impressive to see where these big teams work.
.

Stay tuned! I’m still updating!
